Research Resources

Research Resources

Devon Gardens Trust holds records on many gardens in the county. Most are kept in the Devon Heritage Centre (formerly called the Devon Record Office) and are available (with the owner’s permission) to researchers. Information about the contents of each file and a form for permission to view can be obtained from Dr Clare Greener (email).

DGT also has a collection of books relevant to garden research with the emphasis on Devon and the South West. This is now held at the DGT's Office at the Exeter Community Centre in Exeter (click here for directions). The list of books held by the Trust is available to download here, and a document entitled Sources for Garden History Research relating to Devon and the southwest of the UK is also available here.  Books and research materials are available for consultation BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.  The DGT Office is not serviced on a daily basis, so please do not visit the Centre expecting to be able to access the collection.  Please contact Dr Clare Greener (email) to book an appointment.

A list of Conservation Management Plans for UK properties published by the Garden History Society (now part of the Gardens Trust) in September 2013 is available for download here.
