Heavitree Park

Statutory Designation:

Heavitree park listed Grade II

District:
Exeter
Parish:
Exeter
Grid ref:
SX 942 923
Map no:
Landranger 192
Description:

Heavitree Park is described by Pevsner as ‘a maltreated group of once exclusive villas with their own drive and rustic lodge.’  The villas were built in 1825-9, but like so many developments in early C19 Exeter, it was never finished.  In the mid 1970’s Sidney Pratt Builders, a local Exeter firm, built a modest 3 storey block of flats & maisonettes on a plot originally intended for C19 villas.  Whilst of no architectural merit, the block is relatively sympathetic in scale and materials and is set back from the villa frontage.  The drive encompasses the large central garden, laid to grass with mature trees and shrubs.  The car park is unobtrusively sited off the drive and screened by shrubs
