A new publication from Historic England working in co-operation with the War Memorials Trust and the Gardens Trust, entitled Conservation and Management of War Memorial Landscapes, has just been launched. First published in 2012 by the War Memorials Trust, the new edition has been updated by Jenifer White, National Planning Adviser at Historic England. Several examples of war memorial landscapes located in Devon are included in the booklet, including the Garden of Remembrance in Ilfracombe and the Memorial Clock Tower in Shaldon. Earlier this month Mid-Devon District Council unveiled plans to construct a new memorial garden in Tiverton (see announcement). The garden will open in 2017, one hundred years after Tiverton man Thomas Henry Sage was awarded a Victoria Cross for gallantry in Ypres, Belgium (see entry at Victoria Cross Trust).
