Wembury House was built for Thomas Lockyer around 1803 and is the third house on the site - originally a monastic grange (with ramparts remaining today) and then the property of Sir John Hele, complete with tidal fish pond on the Yealm Estuary.
The current planting surrounding the Georgian House includes box-edged rose beds, an elegant Victorian conservatorry, a sunken terrace and a fountain embedded in the monastic walls.
The two walled gardens are being horticultuarlly-curated on a rental basis bby Sue Minter and Penny Hammond and has two Victorian glasshouses, one by Messenger and the other by Foster and Pearson and includes a pineapple pit plus a substantial orchard in the lower of the two gardens.
