Description:
Sometime between 1840 and 1880 the Rev. W.T.A. Radford, Rector of Down St Mary bought three rows of clothworkers cottages, presumedly razed two of the rows and converted the third into a country house. It is believed that Radford laid out the garden in a series of informal terraces ending in a dry stone wall 12 to 15 feet high of massive granite blocks. Despite serious damage in 1990 there are still several fine trees, notably Sequiadendron, Sequoia, Cedrus deodara,Thuja plicata as well as mature oaks, beeches and sweet chestnuts. In 1963 the house was divided into three. The views of the upper Teign valley up to the high moor are impressive.
