Newton House, Newton Surmaville, near Yeovil

A unique opportunity to visit a Grade I listed house with Grade II listed garden, newly restored by the owners.  The house was built in 1612 and was sold for the first time in 2007 having been passed down through generations of the Harbin family.   The DGT has been invited to visit by the owners.   Tours will start at 2pm, and the owners will show visitors round the house and gardens (which include an extensive walled garden, 90' long greenhouse, over 70 standard ‘weeping’ roses, formal potagere, mediaeval carp ponds, pleached limes and orchard.  Cream teas will be served.   Tickets £17.50 (members), £20 (non-members) to include cream tea.  £15 per person will be donated to Breakthrough (a breast cancer charity).  This is a perfect opportunity for a morning visit to Montacute House (NT), East Lambrook or Tintinhull  - all are within easy reach.   Contact Ian Varndell (e. events@devongardenstrust.org.uk ; t. 07769 335506) for details (more information about the house and garden are on the DGT website –  www.devongardenstrust.org.uk) and to book (before 17th June please).  The booking form can be downloaded here.
